O Georadar (GPR – Ground Penetrating Radar) é uma técnica geofísica que usa energia eletromagnética para mapear o subsolo de forma não invasiva.
A energia eletromagnética do Georadar é transmitida para o subsolo, sendo modificada, e parcialmente refletida, pelos contrastes entre diferentes materiais presentes no subsolo (Figura 1). A seleção da frequência da antena depende do tipo de aplicação, profundidade e dimensões dos alvos potenciais e do tipo de ambiente do local, variando normalmente entre 10 e 2000 MHz.

Vantagens da técnica de Georadar:
- Obtenção de informação sobre áreas maiores que métodos geofísicos alternativos existentes;
- Técnica totalmente não destrutiva.
- Vantagens:
- É uma técnica fácil e rápida de executar,
- Só é necessário um operador,
- Não necessita de múltiplos equipamentos,
- Usam-se antenas blindadas bastante comuns e usadas em inúmeras situações.
Desvantagens:
- É necessário o conhecimento das condições geológicas,
- Em algumas situações exige o conhecimento da profundidade do objeto a detetar para calibração prévia do equipamento.
